New research by the European Broadcasting Union demonstrates how countries with robust public service broadcasting tend to rank higher in the democracy index while, similarly, countries where public service media (PSM) is weak show a lower level of democracy.
The research shows that in countries where PSM is well-funded and enjoys a high market share:
- People are more active in politics;
- There is more political stability and an absence of violence; and
- Corruption is under control.
